Watch Me

Marrow may have been
What created Eve
But no one has given up
Their ribs for me

Though I have tried
Seeking out penance
This emptiness always
Returns with a vengeance

I fear bone was required
To create one who is loving
For I have failed to be good
But I will at least not be nothing

I will climb higher
Than Icarus ever flew
I have no wax wings to melt
Sunburnt shoulders will have to do

Conversing with corpses
In their own mother tongue
I am a mockery to all I imitate
Give me someone interesting to become

I promise there is sweetness
Inside my patchwork soul
The apple tastes disgusting
And I will swallow it whole
