Dark Parks

nightmares in dark parks
dreams sold in tiny plastic bags
death lurks behind every tree
morose figures standing around with nothing to do
idly waiting to hand out packages of deadly dreams
veterans stagger closer
a simple gesture suffices to place an order
rookies tremble in fear failing to act confident
often getting ripped off and they’re happy thinking
they’ve scored something good
returning customers beg for the nirvana that
never visits someone twice
bodies disappear without a trace
few people remain for decades
dark parks are filled with dreams and nightmares
bliss and pain
dark parks where
everywhere and nowhere intermingle
where tiny plastic bags rarely weighing more than a couple of grams
offer the coveted way out
there’s always a surge of people coming and going
people desperate for ways to escape
and some few remain because they thrive
in the despair that encapsulates those dark parks
